How do I prepare for a visit?

  • Be ready to relax. The world out there can be hectic enough – when you walk through our doors, leave everything else behind. This is your time.
  • While it is not required to shower prior to a treatment session, do arrive with clean body and clothes for the best experience.
  • Come with questions. A productive relationship between you and your therapist is one where there is an open conversation.

Does acupuncture hurt?

"Needle" might be a scarier word than it is.

For starters, acupuncture needles are solid, not hollow like the ones used in syringes for shots. They are much, much thinner – only about the width of a human hair, and are very flexible. In most cases, clients do not feel the insertion of acupuncture needles, which are placed just under the skin along specific meridian points.

Depending on your condition and location of the needles, you may experience a tingly sensation or warmth, which is common as the needles boost the circulation in that area.

Is acupuncture safe?

Recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO), acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment for a wide variety of conditions, including allergies, depression, pain relief, strokes, and even postoperative and chemotherapy pain, nausea and vomiting.

We require that all therapists are licensed, and we only use acupuncture supplies that comply with the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which mandates that acupuncture needles must be sterile, non-toxic, and labeled for single-use only by qualified practitioners only.

How long are treatment sessions?

Typically, each treatment visit is booked for 1-hour. However, the length of time for each treatment depends on the therapy. Some treatment sessions can be as quick as 15 minutes, or as long as a full-hour.

For best experience, consult with one of our practitioners to determine the best course of treatment or therapy for your needs.

Which therapy is best?

It all depends on what you are looking for! Each therapy has its advantages, and the best results are seen with a combination of several together. We recommend scheduling a consultation with one of our practitioners to determine the best course of treatment or therapy for your needs.

Why haven't I seen any difference after my first visit?

By getting your first treatment, you are already well on your way to a healthier you. Depending on your unique situation, it is completely normal for the effects of your first treatment to wear off or to not see much of a difference at all. Illness and imbalance develops over time – likewise, bringing balance and wellness back to your body will take effect gradually as well.

For some cases, customers notice an immediate difference in their condition during their treatment session, or within the same day. For other, typically more chronic conditions, customers may start to notice changes to their condition up to two weeks after their treatment session. Truly chronic conditions that have developed over time may see a positive turn after several weeks or months of consistent treatment.

More importantly, you are here because you have made up your mind to be well, and it probably means some things have to change. Whether that means kicking unhealthy habits or taking on new, healthier ones, consistency over time will be your trusted friend. Keep the conversation open with your therapist, and listen to your body. Your body will respond positively.

I seem to be getting new symptoms after my visit or taking the herbs.

Your body is alive and constantly changing and responding to your environment. Changes in your condition can be the result of many different factors, and the best way to determine the cause of this change is to visit with your therapist.

One of the most common reasons why new symptoms may develop after your visit or taking the herbs is because of a cold or flu. We tend to think that cold or flu symptoms are pretty standard - runny nose, sore throat, etc. Sometimes, however, your body may show other signs before those symptoms become apparent.

According to TCM theory, when your body system is under siege, the weakest part of your body will usually be the first to feel symptoms. This could be a simple stiff neck or shoulder, joint pain, digestive issues, dry eyes, etc. If you notice any peculiar reactions or symptoms after your visit or taking herbs, check with your therapist for the best recommendations. As always, please consult your physician before you start any supplement or health regiment.
